The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides comprehensive, personalized care to women of all ages.
Our physicians work with certified nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners to provide expert obstetric care to women anticipating normal pregnancies, beginning with pregnancy planning and continuing through labor, childbirth, delivery and beyond.
Labor and delivery take place at the VCU Medical Center, where women have many options, including The Birthing Center and rooming in. Breastfeeding and other in-house educational programs further ensure that new parents and babies bond and leave the hospital prepared for their new life together.
Our team of Maternal Fetal Specialists provides the full range of prenatal diagnosis. They are experts in the management of medical problems such as hypertension, diabetes and heart problems, and they work with our neonatologists and level 3 nursery to ensure the highest quality of care and best outcomes for high-risk pregnancies.
We also provide comprehensive well woman care, including contraception, menopause and preventative services. Our gynecology staff routinely cares for pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding and infections. We have the only pediatric gynecology expert in Richmond, who can provide care for girls and adolescents with gynecologic problems.
Highly trained subspecialists in our Female Pelvic Health and Continence Program offer the full range of services for correction of incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. Our reproductive endocrinologists provide the full range of treatment for infertility, including IVF. Through collaboration with the Massey Cancer Center, our gynecologic oncologists provide care to gynecologic cancer patients that is both compassionate and state of the art.
